Sophomores are currently reading My Antonia for a cross-trimester assignment in Honors English with Ms. Livrone.
“We’re reading it over the trimester [break] because we have an art project to do: we have to take a section of the book and portray it artistically. I’m really excited about the project,†Krista Mevis (10) said.
They will have plenty of good material from which to pull inspiration from, according to students.
“It’s pretty good; it has kept my interest. The book is about the life of an immigrant girl during America’s movement into the West,†Jared Schooley (10) said.
The book is not only good for artistic ideas, but for intellectual stimulation, as well.
“I really like the description of things and the details that you get from the back in time point of view,†Schooley said.
Although the majority of students have not read the book yet, ask any of the ones that have and you will come across a general consensus:
“Willa Cather is a good author, and she did a good job with this great novel,” Mevis said.
