Snow is falling, and the girls are taking off their warm-ups to get ready for a big race. Their bodies are shaking as they approach the starting line. The gun is up;they tense, a shot, and their off.

On Saturday April 14, the CHS varsity girls track team competed in the Northridge Relays at Northridge high school. It was not a pretty day for running and the frigid weather changed times greatly.

“I didn’t do to well in the mile, it was so cold; I couldn’t focus on my running,” Jessica Scott (12) said.

Though many were affected by the cold and distracted by the snow; the girls 4 x 800 relay team placed 3rd at the relays, they prevailed.

“We were pretty happy with our 3rd place in the 4 x 800 relay; we have a lot of potential for the year to come,” Cari McAfoos (10) said.

The girls placed 6th over all and competed against 11 other teams in the area. The season is going into full swing and as long as the snow stays away, the girls should have a decent season.

“I really hope the snow goes away, I have goals for this season and it’s hard to run well in freezing weather,” McAfoos said.
