It is the beginning of the school year and Mr. Furfaro (Social Studies) has already introduced the volunteering project to his senior U.S. Government classes.

“The United States was founded on volunteering,” said Furfaro. “It is extremely important that we give back.”

With there being 368 students in the senior class and an eight hour minimum volunteering requirement, the seniors are expected to devote approximately 2,944 hours to the community of Elkhart and surrounding areas.

“When a person helps their community, they find that people really do need the help,” Furfaro said. “This is an opportunity to be responsible and participate.”
