Girl’s swimming season begins

The Girl’s swimming season is starting again, and sights are already set on winning.

“Obviously, we want to win sectionals,” Lauren Hardy (10) said. “It’s always North Ridge who’s one step ahead of us, but this year, I think we have the depth and ability to beat them.”

Winning isn’t the only thing important to the girls, though. They think of it as an experience that is not available anywhere else.

“I really like weight lifting,” Hardy said. “It’s something that a lot of people groan and complain about doing, but getting up at 4:45 to train is an experience that you only get from doing this. It’s like a bonding time for the team.”

Part of the experience has a lot to do with traditions that the girls have been doing for years.

“We have a Goodwill day,” Hardy said. “It’s for NLC’s. We pick out the ugliest clothes from Goodwill and wear them. Every year, a freshman wears the ‘golden suit’. We’ve been doing it for the past ten years.”

The first meet is Tuesday, November 11 at Bremen High.
